I am a professional secondary school teacher who has specialized in teaching English as a foreign language, TEFL. Having accumulated many years of experience, I enjoy teaching and make great effort to help students to enjoy learning.
I am interested in nature and science, philosophy, literature and current affairs.
Among my colleagues and friends are English language speakers. Our family is bilingual, English-German and we tend to speak English together at home.
The Social Programme
Solothurn has many sport facilities available to the student including indoor and outdoor swimming pools, football pitches, tennis and squash courts, a mini-golf course.
The Aare river is home to a canoeing club and fishing is possible.
Excursions will include a boat outing along the river to the city of Biel which is a bilingual city (French-German.)
One can of course travel to Berne, the political capital of Switzerland to visit museums.
Weather permitting, walking and hiking is possible in the Jura mountains.
The town library provides books and audio-visual material in German, French, Italian and English languages. It also has a reading room, ideal for academic study.
We provide three meals daily, breakfast, lunch and dinner. Switzerland has a variety of food available, Italian, French and German. The student is very welcome to provide the cook with inspiration and wishes. This certainly makes it easier to satisfy everyone.
Solothurn lies in the Aare river valley at the foot of the Jura mountain range. It is approximately mid-way between Basel(nearest airport) and Berne. The travel time from Basel airport is approximately one hour by train. Alternatively, one can also travel by train from Zurich airport, approximate travel time is ninty minutes.
For information on facilities, please refer to the Social Programme for the Student above.

Originally trained in Ireland as a secondary school teacher, after university, I taught students in Ireland. In 1994 I qualified as a teacher of English as a foreign language. In Ireland, I worked in private language schools teaching general and business English to an international group of students. I have experience in teaching at all levels from beginner to advanced and have given courses to individuals as well as to groups. Courses which I have taught include IELTS, PET, FCE, CAE, CPE and BEC. Courses vary from exam preparation as mentioned above to conversation classes and English for travel and leisure. Furthermore, I am willing to design specific courses (ESP) according to the individual request eg, specific vocabulary.
